Mark 11: 24
Therefore i tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you received it, and it will be yours.
What exactly does that mean and will I really get anything i ask for?
Mark 11:24 is a lesson about our Faith. In Romans 10:17 it’s teaching us ”Faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the message about Christ”
So, everything is about Believing. Trust. Faith. And in order to ”hear” the message about Christ we need to read His Word. The Bible. The more we read and the more time we spend with others that talk about Christ, the more we believe and our Faith will grow. As i said many times in my previous posts, believing does not always mean you understand everything. You just KNOW.
Scripture says : ”Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.” Read the full verse in Psalm 37:4
When we begin to believe, we understand that asking God for a brand new car because we want to, might not be given to us, as we are asking God for selfish reasons. Unless we do whatever we can, to please our heart, just so we can get that new car. Though at that point, we don’t want God in the picture anymore, as we are doing things on our own. Whatever comes next will make you only stray away from Faith. However, if we are in need of a functional car, whether it is new or not, and we ask God to find a solution, and we are coming to Him, knowing God will help us find a solution, that is when God provides. Maybe not today or tomorrow, but He will.
In James 4:2-3 it says:
”You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you ask God with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures and lust ”.
Different scenarios. We do not know if they are Christians or not:
- Let’s say, a cheating husband desires to be with another woman. He has sexual intentions. So he asks God , ”God i really lust for this woman. Please help me not being caught by the wife”.
- A young woman, married but separated for many years finally files divorce. She falls in love with someone new. She asks God,” I really love this man. Please speed up divorce and i will forever be thankful to you”.
- A student struggles with her grades. So instead of studying, she cheats during the test and is asking God, not to be caught.
- A couple that wants to get married but has a very low budget. Both are dreaming of a big wedding and want to invite as many people as possible with good food and an amazing reception. They pray for more money, they pray for a solution, they pray in Faith, truly believing God will provide. Now here are my personal thoughts:
Personal desires: Life happens. And today we are not talking about what’s wrong or right, rather examples and encouragement
- Sexual desires: Since the husband is already doing his own thing, life will take its course. He is far away from God and is asking things for his own desires. Maybe he will get caught or not. Unfortunately the husband isn’t asking God to give him strength to stay away from other women because he puts sex first. If he prays for strength to refrain from other woman and believes in how big God’s power is, his prayers are heard. Sex makes top list of struggling to stay pure or faithful as the offer is everywhere!
- New Love: Even if she met the love of her life, even if she already filed for divorce and lives separated for a long time. Maybe they both ware waiting to have sex. She needs to ask herself, what if she won’t be with him quick enough. Will she still be faithful to the Lord? What if it gets rocky and appears impossible for the couple to be together? Does she try everything to please God? Will she remain positive?
- Self Effort: One thing about God is as famous to know as the fact that our parents always reward us, if we study for a test, put our responsibility first and try to succeed. And if we fail after all? Our parents are still proud and tell us, next time will be better. That is how God is. He will and does not punish us for something we put effort into, that will impact our future or education. If it is hard work. And if we still fail? The answer is, we won’t fail. Take this word literally. However, if we are too lazy and rather cheat and pray we won’t get caught, goes right back to point number 1 above. Selfish prayers without positive effort. Maybe the student gets caught maybe not. Self doubt causes the same outcome as any other doubt. You stray away from faith and trust.
- Already Delivered Love: One of my favorite things i share with my wedding clients, is how wonderful their gift is to have each other and the fulfilled happiness. How wonderful it is to love each other, to believe and have Faith in the Lord together. Every girl i know, including myself, is filled with so much energy and happiness after being proposed to, that from now on, all they can think of is everything wedding related. The dress- so he falls in love with you all over again as you walk down the aisle, the reception-so you can cheer with as many people as possible in the most romantic place you can think of. Though, we cannot always have everything we want, can we? The question is, aren’t you guys already have everything? You hearts desire each other. Your hearts desire the Lord. Both of your spirits are connected with God. He has already delivered !! If you change your perspective on things, answers flow and doors will open all around you!
Lust, frustration, impatience, self doubt and life happenings will distract your desire to do good for the Lord and you end up sinning, becoming more careless, have less trust in the Lord, having doubts…You cannot expect good coming from selfish prayers, that will only please you in any given situation, but not the Lord or others. Faith is about trusting in the Lord. It is just as simple as asking God for forgiveness. He will hear you and you are forgiven. That is because we have Faith. Its the Faith that connects you to the Lord and gives to you the desires of your heart. Again, maybe not today or tomorrow. But He will.
